Modular EMT Clinical Requirements
Requirements at a Glance
What You’ll Need
Requirement Details
All EMS students must hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification. For Modular EMT students, BLS certification is included in your course cost.
You must have current health insurance during clinical rotations. If you don’t have coverage, talk with the Program Director about short-term student health insurance options.
Submit proof of high school graduation, a GED, or an equivalent. A diploma or transcript is acceptable.
If you’ve lived in Nevada for more than 30 days, you must have a valid Nevada driver license, as required by state law. Active-duty military members and out-of-state residents may use a valid license from their home state. A valid state-issued ID may be accepted instead with approval from the Director of Education.
Precheck is the preferred vendor for our clinical partners. To complete yours:
- Go to the Precheck student portal.
- Confirm the program “Guardian Elite Medical Services.”
- Select “Background Check” as the service type.
- Click “Start Application.”
If you have a felony on your record, speak with the Program Director before continuing to confirm whether you’re eligible for clinical rotations. Clinical sites set their own background standards and may decline students based on criminal history.
Submit a basic physical exam dated within 6 months of your program start date. It should note any abnormal findings and list any accommodations you may need to attend class and perform skills required by the EMS Education Standards. Available through your primary care physician or a GEMS partnered vendor.
Your drug screen must be completed within 7 days of your program start date; tests older than that are not accepted. You can get one through your primary care physician or a GEMS partnered vendor. The panel tests for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, MDMA (ecstasy), methadone, methamphetamines, opiates, and oxycodones
You’ll need a 2-Step Skin TB Test or a QuantiFERON blood test dated within 6 months of your program start date. The 2-Step skin test takes almost two weeks to complete, so start early. You can get tested through your primary care physician or a GEMS partnered vendor.
If your result is positive, submit that documentation along with chest X-ray results to be cleared. If you have symptoms or an active infection, follow your physician’s isolation and treatment instructions. A chest X-ray alone is not accepted in place of a TB test.
Important Notice
Clinical rotations can’t be requested until all of your requirements are complete, and coordinating with clinical sites takes time. Please submit everything well ahead of your deadlines. Failure to follow these requirements will result in removal from the program.
