About the Wilderness First Aid Class
When you are hiking, camping, hunting, off-roading, traveling, or working in remote areas, medical help may not be right around the corner. Wilderness First Aid teaches you how to recognize problems, stay calm, and care for someone until higher-level help is available.
This is a 20-hour Wilderness First Aid course taught over two days. This course is taught in a classroom setting with a mix of lecture, discussion, and hands-on skills practice. CPR/AED certification is included as part of this course; making it an excellent option for students who want a complete emergency preparedness foundation for both everyday and wilderness settings.
What You’ll Learn
Students will get hands-on practice with:
- Wilderness scene safety and patient assessment
- Taking and recording vital signs
- Shock recognition and bleeding control
- Burns, fractures, sprains, and splinting
- Heat illness, hypothermia, and altitude sickness
- Lightning and environmental emergencies
- Bites, stings, poisonous plants, and animal hazards
- Common medical emergencies in remote areas
- Building and using a wilderness first aid kit
- CPR and AED use for all ages

Absolutely! This course is designed for individuals who have no medical training. However, you will become CPR/AED certified during this course!
We do not believe so. This course will serve as a review to your already established base knowledge and will build upon that. In addition, Wilderness First Aid will teach you how to think differently in an austere environment. We will also use your expertise during the class to lead those that do not have as much experience. This course has been approved for CME credit. Please ask your instructor for more information.
Yes! Certification for CPR/AED all ages is included in this course. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive your CPR/AED certification card, which is valid for 2 years.
This class is taught entirely in the classroom. There will be a combination of lectures and hands on skills. Students may be required to get on the ground to treat patients and participate in team lifts. Students are not required to perform any skill they are not physically capable of performing.
